Twila Smith, Vice President Communications, DRASH USA is a Southern California–born communications leader, vocalist, Occuapational Therapist, and community advocate whose work sits at the intersection of culture, crisis response, and community resilience. The daughter of special education facilitators (LAUSD and LACOE} and a father who is an accomplished musician as well. Raised in a family that valued music as both expression and connection, Twila developed an early understanding of cadence, storytelling, and their power to unite people—skills that would later define her leadership in both the arts and public service.
Her musical foundation includes formal study in music theory and performance with esteemed ensembles such as the University Bell Ringers of Los Angeles, the Lynwood Academy Lynaires, and the Oakwood College Aeolians. Over the years, she has shared the stage with renowned artists across gospel, blues, soul, and classical genres, while continuing to compose, arrange, coach, and consult in professional studio and live-performance settings.
Alongside her artistic career, Twila pursued healthcare and earned two degrees in Occupational Therapy at Howard University, later returning to California to practice and serve her community. Her professional journey expanded into various areas of practice in Occupational Therapy (including roles of executive board member and Vice President), occupational health, safety compliance, public engagement, and strategic communications—equipping her with a rare, human-centered perspective rooted in wellness, equity, and risk awareness.
Twila brings more than two decades of cross-sector experience to advancing resilient, dignified solutions for communities affected by disaster—particularly those impacted by California’s devastating wildfires. She specializes in crisis communication, stakeholder engagement, and safety education, translating complex issues into clear, compassionate messaging that builds trust and drives action.
OSHA 510 certified and BLS trained, Twila is deeply committed to advocating for vulnerable and displaced populations. Drawing on her roots, lived experience, and leadership across healthcare, music, and communications, she amplifies community voices and champions sustainable housing solutions that honor both humanity and home.
